Sedation Dentistry

Patient with gas mask Minimal Sedation Nitrous OxideMaintaining strong and healthy teeth is an important goal, but for many patients it can also be an incredibly hard one to achieve. That is because some patients find themselves incredibly anxious whenever they consider going to the dentist’s office, and actually making it to a visit can be quite the achievement. This isn’t even taking into account any special procedures that they might need to have completed in order to maintain their oral health. Whether you have had a traumatic experience in the past or are simply anxious about your treatment, at Enhanced Dental Care our goal is to leave you with a comfortable and positive experience with dental care. With that goal in mind, we offer a variety of sedation dentistry options.

Nitrous Oxide

One of the safest and most effective sedative options to help you let go of anxiety and stress at the dentist’s office is nitrous oxide. You can use this with an oxygen mask, where the oxygen is mixed with the nitrous oxide and breathed in normally. Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide will gradually begin to help you feel more comfortable with various procedures. Note that this will not put you to sleep – you will still have complete control of your faculties. It is simply used as an option to help you relax instead of putting yourself through a lot of stress while in our offices.

Nitrous oxide begins to take effect with a few minutes. At first, this might make you feel a bit of tingling in your legs or your arms, and it might make you feel a bit light-headed. Fairly quickly, however, you will simply begin to feel relaxed and less stressed out than when you began. The gas will help you feel calm, in other words, and enable you to get through your appointment or procedure as comfortably as possible. The effects will wear off quickly once the mask is removed, too, which means that you won’t have to worry about not being able to come back to Earth for a while after the appointment.

Oral Sedation

Another option that might help you have a good experience in our offices is oral sedation. This is a kind of sedative technique that ensures that you are awake for the visit and procedure, but in a deeply relaxed state. Oral sedation can help even those most anxious and worried about visiting the dentist to relax and get the dental care that they need in order to live well and maintain their oral health. There are a wide variety of different options in this category. Some of them work after being placed under the tongue while others are taken orally. Our sedation options are all given in our office by an experienced professional who understands how the options might affect you.

Keep in mind that you will need a driver to help you get back home if you decide to go with this kind of dental care!
